A Trip to London

Part 1

Hi, folks!
My mother and I had planned to go to London in so long and last fall the time had come. On 3th of September 2013 it was still very early as our taxi picked us up and tooked us to the airport. We wanted to be at the airport 3 hours before departure so that we wouldn´t have that much stress at the check-in. Departure was at 7.40 am and we were both eager to finally land in the UK.

When we arrived at Heathrow at 09.05 am and had picked up our bags from the baggage carousel, we took the Heathrow Express to London. Whereas we had ordered the tickets for the airport transfer and the Oyster card, a rechargeable smartcard in credit card-format for public transportation, on the internet up front, we could simply enter the next train to London. Here we could take a little breather before we went on our way to the apartment we booked.

After 20 minutes we arrived at Paddington, a really beautiful train station. Here we took the Circle Line and went to Notting Hill Gate, where a nice young man carried my suitcase upstairs. I was a bit scared, he would disappear in a second with my suitcase, because I am used to the people in Vienna and wasn´t prepared for so much help. Here we transfered to the District Line and went to Kensington. The pure travelling time from the airport to the apartment took about 50 minutes. We stayed at The Kensington Studios. They have beautiful apartments and it takes just a few minutes to the tube station. As we arrived, the receptionist gave us the key card to our room. It was on the last floor, but that was no problem, because they have an elevator. Here are some impressions.

We booked a double room. There was Wifi, which was very useful to contact family and friends to make sure we arrived well. The kitchenette was equipped with a microwave, an electric water jug, hot plates and a mini fridge. But we ate most of the time in restaurants so we didn´t use the kitchenette.
